About the Nursery
City Slicker Farms' Greenhouse, the Ralph Bunche Nursery, is located on the campus of the Ralph Bunche High School in West Oakland in partnership with Oakland Unified School District. The greenhouse provides seedlings for City Slicker Farms' Backyard Garden and Community Market Farms programs and Ralph Bunche School's gardens; offers seedlings to the public at a sliding scale basis; and is a space for urban farming education for Ralph Bunche School students, City Slicker Farms Youth Crew members and Food Justice Allies, and for students and people of all ages.
We focus on growing vegetables and herbs (though you'll find other gems here too) for home gardeners, and choose varieties best suited to West Oakland residents' needs and West Oakland's microclimates.
Seedlings are available free of charge to participants in City Slicker Farms' Backyard Garden Program. Seedlings are available on a sliding scale basis to all others, and the proceeds go back to supporting City Slicker Farms' food justice work.
