First Saturdays
First Saturdays at City Slickers is a community event for neighbors, partners, and volunteers! Each month we lead a Food Justice Orientation and Volunteer Workday to learn more about our work and what we all can do to create a more just and equitable food system.
From 10 – 11 am we are leading a Food Justice Orientation where we will discuss what is food justice and how is City Slicker Farms working to increase access and build community through equitable access to health foods, thriving gardens, and urban green space. We’ll talk about the intersections between racism, classism and food access, the impact of gentrification in West Oakland specifically, and what you can do to help. Orientation is required for all volunteers and recommended for all neighbors and partners.
From 11-1 pm we have Volunteer Workday where we will be working on various projects and tasks at the Farm Park such as weeding, pruning, harvesting, building, filling, dumping and more!
We also host special events, such as a monthly Local Artisan Fair from 11:00am – 2:00pm. Come support local businesses, artists, creators, and healers! We also rotate special workshops like bike repair, meditation, and more! Check out our events page listing to see what is happening each month.
