Our private group volunteer work days offer organizations an opportunity to build connections between members and practice teamwork while learning about urban farming, gardening and the West Oakland community. Our workdays are also one way we help fundraise to keep our programs going, so your workday is giving back to the community in multiple ways.
The length of the workday averages 3 hours long and includes a farm tour and food justice presentation. Tasks vary from small-farm chores like weeding and planting, feeding the chickens, and harvesting honey, as well as larger projects like garden builds that support residents all across Alameda County, building a new chicken run fence at the Farm Park and more. Pricing for our workdays are based on the costs of staffing, supplies, and include support to keep our programs running free of charge for low and fixed income East Bay residents.
Private workdays start at $1,200 for corporate volunteers and private schools, or $50 per person for non-corporate groups, such as birthday parties, civic groups and cooperatives. Program partners, public schools and mission-aligned organizations are eligible for free and sliding scale workdays.
