Beneficial Insects
Do you know the difference between harmful pests in your garden (such as leaf miners, snails, etc.) and beneficial insects that can help the health and ecosystem of your garden?

There are 3 types of beneficial insects:
Parasites lay their eggs on harmful bugs that then hatch and feed on the harmful insect.
Pollinators help deposit pollen to allow fertilization
Predators eat harmful garden pests
How do we keep beneficial bugs happy?
Have diverse options. Make sure to plant flowers and plants that attract beneficial insects. For example, Cosmos and Dill are great for attracting pollinators–like bees–and predators–like ladybugs.
Avoid using harmful chemicals and/or pesticides. Pesticides end up killing not only the harmful bugs but the beneficial ones too. Try providing a good environment for your predators and parasites so they can do the hard work for you!
