Heal the Hood
“Heal the Hood”’s mission is to increase the education and access to plant-based eating and
living for communities most impacted by food inequality. We strive to do this by directly visiting
communities that are most impacted and providing meals, entertainment, resources, and
community for FREE.
“Heal the Hood,” is a collaborative initiative with Cat Fitness, Plant Powered Brothaz, and The
Vegan Hood Chefs. Heal the Hood was developed by Cat from Cat fitness as a way to introduce
Plant Based living to the community to commemorate his 6-year anniversary of experiencing a
traumatic health scare. By adopting a plant-based lifestyle and engaging in fitness he has been
able to improve his health outcomes.
Like Cat so many people of color are also experiencing extreme health issues due to the lack of
education and access to healthy foods. This has shown to be prominent in areas that are
considered to be “food deserts.” Although plant-based eating has become more popular in the
media, many communities most impacted by food insecurity are still struggling with access and
education.
During this pandemic, the lack of access and education has increased, due to the closure of many
programs and institutions that provide these resources. Many families have also been impacted
by loss of finances that impede or limit their ability to buy fresh and healthy food.
