A New West Oakland Farm Park
The Promise of a New Farm Park
City Slicker Farms held a community design process with West Oakland youth, seniors, and families to develop a unified vision for the project. Through this process, the community envisioned several promises of the Farm Park.

Community Engagement in Development and Design
After our groundbreaking ceremony in January of 2013, we held four community meetings throughout the year to consolidate and refine residents’ vision for the West Oakland Farm Park. These meetings were specifically designed to encourage input from many different sectors of the community.
The Farm Park Council is made up of 10 local residents, and provides a channel through which community members can contribute ongoing leadership in the design and programming of the Farm Park. Members of the Council will also help in identifying potential business partners and generating further community support through outreach activities. The Council has facilitated some of the public community meetings serving as a liaison with the community at large.
Meet our Farm Park Council members.
We sat down with four of our community members to talk about what the Farm Park means to them and to West Oakland. Meet Samaki, a backyard gardener and mentor; Ernestine, a West Oakland native and Farm Park Council member; Bob, a long-time volunteer; and Senay, a four-year returning youth intern.
