Blogs

Rainy weather provides a great opportunity for contemplation.  Since we have been getting lots of rain over the past couple of weeks, City Slicker Farms staff thought it would be a great opportunity to share what has been happening in the field.  For more updates, you can also join our newsletter by adding your email address to the front page of our website.

Back in December 2010, Christopher Johnson, a radio producer and reporter, came by City Slicker Farms to find out what we're all about.  He just finished producing it and uploaded to The Oak Book.  You can listen to it here.

Thanks Christopher!  You did an amazing job!

Next week (starting Monday, January 10th) we will be doing some major work on our Fitzgerald and Union Plaza Park site (34th and Peralta Streets, Oakland CA).  We will be planting trees and installing flagstone paths and irrigation - this is a great job for someone who really wants to get their hands dirty and get exercise!

Save a Bag and Support City Slicker Farms

Buffalo Exchange donates to local nonprofit agencies in the community through its Tokens for Bags® program, which has generated nearly $360,000 for hundreds of nonprofits since 1994, saving 7.2 million bags. Shoppers are encouraged to accept a token instead of a bag for purchases, and Buffalo Exchange donates five cents to one of three featured charities of the customers’ choosing.

City Slicker Farms and West Oakland got an amazing gift from Prop 84 on Monday (thanks to all that voted for the proposition!).  Proposition 84, a California bond initiative approved in 2006 reserves 5.4 billion dollars in bonds for projects involving water quality and access, pa

We had an amazing end to October!  During the last week of October, we teamed up with Clif Bar and "In Good Company" to see just how many projects we could get done in one week and showcase the phenominal ways West Oakland residents are growing their own food.  We constructed four chicken coops with Crucible employees, Matt Wolpe and Kevin McElroy; partnered with two West Oakland households and built back
