Seasonal Changes to Our Program Schedule
Every winter, City Slicker Farms welcomes the rainy season, plans for the coming year, plants cover crops, makes repairs, and evaluates how to improve our programs, and this winter we're also finishing the build-out of the new West Oakland Urban Farm and Park. In order to make time for this important work, we have modified schedules for our sites and limited volunteer opportunities in December and January.
Office and Program Closings: The City Slicker Farms office and all programs will be closed from Thursday, November 26 to Monday, November 30 (the office will reopen Tuesday, December 1), and from Sunday, December 20 to Monday, January 4 (the office will reopen Tuesday, January 5).
Community Market Farms Seasonal Closure: The Community Market Farms at Union Plaza Park and Secret Garden will be closed to visitors and volunteers starting on November 26 and will reopen in February 2016.
Last Farmstand of 2015: The last farmstand of 2015 will be Wednesday, November 25, at its usual location at Union Plaza Park. The farmstand will reopen in February 2016 at the new West Oakland Urban Farm and Park. City Slicker Farms' farmstand is intended for low-income West Oakland residents.
Ralph Bunche Nursery Modified Winter Hours: The nursery will be open for plant sales on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 1:30-5:00 p.m. during the winter, except for closures on the following dates: November 28, December 23, December 26, December 30, and January 2. We are unable to accommodate drop-in volunteers during the winter. More information about the Ralph Bunche Nursery is available at https://www.cityslickerfarms.org/greenhouse.
Backyard Garden mentoring and support: If you are a participant in City Slicker Farms' Backyard Garden Program, we are happy to offer mentor visits or other garden support over the winter. Please contact your garden mentor directly, email [email protected] or call (510) 763-4241 x102.
