Growing a delicious, dry-farmable Monsanto-free tomato
We're excited to be growing out Dirty Girl tomatoes from seeds our friend Elyse Rainey at Ecology Center sourced for us! Dirty Girls are a variety of early, red, delicious, dry-farmable tomatoes developed by a Santa Cruz farmer as an alternative to Monsanto's "Early Girl" tomatoes, which are popular in the Bay Area because of their intense flavor and ability to grow without irrigation.

We've invited a few City Slicker Farms backyard gardeners and community partners, including our friends at Urban Adamah, to join us this year in growing them out and selecting seed from the best ones. Next year, using this seed, we look forward to being able to make Dirty Girl tomato starts available to all the Community Market Farms, backyard, and community gardens City Slicker Farms supports.
