An Announcement from City Slicker Farms’ Board of Directors
Earlier this year, we shared the news that our Barbara Finnin, City Slicker Farms’ Executive Director of six years, would be transitioning out of her leadership role in June. At the time, we launched our Executive Transition Committee and opened a national search to find the right candidate. As Barb’s last day with City Slicker Farms approaches, the Board of Directors has made the strategic management decision to bring on an Interim Executive Director to implement on short-term management and strategic planning work, while focusing our search for a long-term full-time Executive Director. What does this mean? We are very fortunate to share that a dedicated volunteer of the organization and very talented immediate-past Board Member, Ariel Dekovic, will be stepping into the role of Interim Director as we extend our search and, at the same time, engage in much-needed strategic planning as we prepare for the construction and development of the West Oakland Farm Park Project. This community asset is a central focus of City Slicker Farms’ work, and this decision will allow us to ensure its successful and timely opening.
Barb’s last day with City Slicker Farms will be June 27, 2014, with Ariel stepping into her new role July 17, 2014. For over a decade, Ariel has helped non-profit organizations develop and market impactful programs and services. She most recently served as Senior Programs Manager of the Collaborative for High Performance Schools, helping school districts across the US implement cost-saving health and sustainability improvements to their buildings. Ariel has an MBA from UC Berkeley’s Haas School of Business and a BA from Vassar College.
In the meantime, our gardens will continue to thrive and City Slicker Farms’ dedicated staff will continue to provide our full range of programs to the West Oakland community. We will keep you updated as our search for a new Executive Director moves forward and as we dive into strategic planning work. We welcome your questions during this transition phase, so please do not hesitate to contact us.
In community and partnership on behalf of the Board of Directors,
Markus Niebanck, Board President
Julia Indovina, Immediate Past President
