City Slicker Farms Has Been Awarded a Prop 84 Grant of 4 Million Dollars to Purchase Land in West Oakland and build a Farm!

City Slicker Farms and West Oakland got an amazing gift from Prop 84 on Monday (thanks to all that voted for the proposition!).  Proposition 84, a California bond initiative approved in 2006 reserves 5.4 billion dollars in bonds for projects involving water quality and access, park improvements, and natural resource and park preservation.  In early 2010, City Slicker Farms conducted a community based planning process with residents of all ages and came up with an exciting farm park design.  After a competitive review process (475 applied, 62 were selected), City Slicker Farms has been awarded a 4 million dollar grant to purchase a 1.4 acre parcel of land at 28th and Peralta streets in West Oakland and construct a new urban farm park!

City Slicker Farms is one of two West Oakland organizations that has been awarded with grants from Prop 84.  We would like to congratulate the West Oakland Teen Center for receiving a grant from Prop 84 as well.  We'll be updating our website with the plans and timeline.  To read more about it, check out our press release.  We will be building a new page on our website to share the community process, concept drawings, and our future community engagement plans and construction plans.  Thanks to the hundreds of people that wrote letters of support and to the West Oakland community for shaping the future of the urban farm park...a park that will for and by West Oakland!  Congratulations everybody!!
